The present invention relates to a weft insertion control method and a weft insertion apparatus in an air jet loom. Provided is a method for controlling weft insertion in an air jet loom comprising a plurality of main nozzles arranged side by side in a forward and backward direction of the air jet loom; a reed disposed in the downstream of the main nozzles relative to the weft insertion direction of the air jet loom and mounted to a sley; and a plurality of sub nozzles arranged along a weft insertion passage. The reed has a recessed weft insertion passage. The sub nozzles comprise a first sub nozzle closest to the main nozzles and a plurality of second sub nozzles closest to the main nozzles. The method further comprises setting jetting pressure of the first sub nozzle to be lower than jetting pressure of the second sub nozzles when weft insertion is performed by at least one main nozzle of the main nozzles closest to a cloth fell.
