Genes encoding laccase derived from Polyporus brumalis are provided to degrade phthalates biologically as environment hormones and produce laccase having high lignin-decomposing activity, so that it is useful for production of edible mushroom having enhanced lignin-decomposing activity. A gene Pblac1 or Pblac2 encoding laccase having the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:3 or SEQ ID NO:4 derived from Polyporus brumalis has the nucleotide sequence of SEQ ID NO:1 or SEQ ID NO:2. The laccase is produced by culturing Polyporus brumalis in a medium containing phthalates. The phthalates are degraded by contacting with Polyporus brumalis.
