A mobile terminal having light-emitting elements, a method for announcing the selection of an item therein, and a method for announcing the generation of an event therein are provided to give new interest and convenience to a user by announcing the selection of an item, such as a menu, a file, etc., and the occurrence of an event, such as message transmission/reception, call origination/termination, etc., to the user through light-emitting elements. A mobile terminal comprises a display part(150), an input part(120), a plurality of light-emitting elements(160), and a control part. The display part(150) displays one or more items. The input part(120) inputs a selection signal for at least one among the displayed items. The light-emitting elements(160) are installed at the outer side of the display part(150). Based on the selection signal, the control part switches at least one of the light-emitting elements(160) on and off in order to inform the user that one of the displayed items has been selected.
