An apparatus for forming spacers in an LCD and a method for forming the spacers using the apparatus are provided to form column spacers at desired positions accurately by using an inkjet head to dispense with a photo-lithographic process, thereby simplifying the manufacturing process and improving the yield. A glass substrate(400) is loaded on a stage(100). A first gantry(200) is installed on the stage such that the first gantry is horizontally movable. A transporting unit(310) is mounted on the first gantry to move vertically to a moving direction of the first gantry. An inkjet head(300) is joined to the transporting unit to form column spacers on a panel formed on the glass substrate. A second gantry(500) is installed on the stage such that the second gantry is horizontally movable. An auxiliary hardening unit(600) is mounted on the second gantry to move vertically to a moving direction of the second gantry. The auxiliary hardening unit soft-bakes the column spacers dropped on the glass substrate.
