TRANSGENIC SWEETPOTATO PLANTS WITH HERBICIDE RESISTANCE AND PROCESS FOR PRODUCING THE SAME

Transgenic sweet potatoes with herbicide resistance are provided to increase production yield of sweet potato by increasing resistance against biological and non-biological stresses, and to select transgenic potatoes having a foreign gene conferring useful agricultural properties or functions on sweet potato by using a herbicide resistant gene. Transgenic sweet potatoes with herbicide resistance are produced by (1) transforming the embryogenic calluses of sweet potatoes with a vector pCAMBIA3301(pBAR) containing a herbicide resistant gene bar and selecting transformed calluses, and (2) regenerating the transformed calluses to transgenic sweet potatoes having herbicide resistance and selecting the transgenic sweet potatoes. The production yield of sweet potatoes is increased by inducing roots of transgenic sweet potatoes, and transferring the transgenic sweet potatoes with roots into the soil and culturing them.
