A multi-component and multi-layer physical vapor deposition(PVD) film is provided, and it has high hardness and high temperature oxidation resistance during dry cutting of a high hardness workpiece at a high speed as a hard coating film for high speed cutting tools used in cemented carbides, cermets, high speed steels, end mills, drills, etc. A multi-component and multi-layer physical vapor deposition film for cutting tools with high hardness and high temperature oxidation resistance is a hard coating film comprising an AlaTibSi1-a-bN film as a unit layer(A) and an AlxTiyY1-x-yN film as a unit layer(B) of which at least one layer is alternately laid up on the surface of a hard matrix such as cemented carbides, cermets, high speed steels, end mills, and drills by PVD(Physical Vapor Deposition), and the multi-component and multi-layer physical vapor deposition film has a hardness of at least 38 GPa, wherein an atomic composition in the AlaTibSi1-a-bN film as the unit layer(A) comprises 40=a=70 at.%, 20=b=50 at.% and 0=1-a-b=10 at.%, and an atomic composition in the AlxTiyY1-x-yN film as the unit layer(B) comprises 45=x=70 at.%, 25=y=50 at.% and 0=1-x-y=5 at.%. The unit layers (A) and (B) each has a film thickness range from 0.001 to 2 mum.
