A system of optimum course selection of a ship speed trial and a method thereof are provided to select a course for minimizing generation of a rudder angle and a drift angle by estimating directions and speeds of a current and wind. A speed log(2) is installed on a bottom of a ship to detect a water speed as a relative speed of the ship and seawater. A gyro(3) detects a stem angle of the ship in real time during zigzag and turning sailing. A DGPS(Differential Global Positioning System)(4) detects coordinates, a ground speed, and a proceeding direction of the ship in real time during the zigzag and turning sailing by using data received through a GPS receiver. An engine power(5) detects RPM(Revolution per minute) of a propeller of the ship in real time. A rudder angle(6) detects an angle of a rudder installed at a stern of the ship. An interface unit(7) transmits data of components to a control unit(8). The control unit analyzes a direction and a speed of seawater based on the data received from the interface unit, selects an optimum course based on rudder angles and drift angles by courses, and performs a speed trial by using the optimum course.
