METHOD FOR READ-CONFIRMATION OF SHORT MESSAGE SERVICE IN MOBILE PHONE

A method for a message read/confirmation service in a portable phone is provided to enable a caller to have a charge for the message read/confirmation service only when an SMS(Short Message Service) message is successfully transmitted to a receiver, thereby reducing the impact of the caller on economic power. A method for performing a message read/confirmation service in a portable phone message center comprises the following steps of: receiving a message from a calling terminal; checking whether a read/confirmation request is applied to the message(S102); adding a read/confirmation identifier and a predetermined charging field to the received message and transmitting the received message to a called terminal if the message is a message requesting the read/confirmation(S103); receiving a read/confirmation message from the called terminal; checking a read/confirmation identifier and a charging field of the read/confirmation message to check whether a receiver confirms the read/confirmation message(S105); and enabling a caller to have a charge for the message read/confirmation service if the receiver confirms the read/confirmation message(S110).
