An extract from pyrola japonica with antimicrobial effect has an antibacterial activity against Gram positive bacillus. And it can be used as not only an antimicrobial agent but also a natural preservative. An extract from pyrola japonica with antimicrobial effect is a non-polar substance in which the HPLC residence time obtained by performing a silica gel column chromatography, and a prep. TLC and HPLC of a hexane fraction obtained from 80% ethanol extract is 9.
