A method for ML(Maximum Likelihood) detection using a lattice reduction algorithm in a MIMO(Multi Input Multi Output) system is provided to detect a Tx signal with minimum computation for an ML detection value by using a lattice reduction algorithm prior to a sequential lattice search scheme for ML detection and to gain the amount of calculation in case of reducing modulation size. A MIMO system, if an Rx signal(y) is received, calculates a conversion matrix(T) to convert a channel matrix(H) into a conversion channel matrix(S10). Then the MIMO system calculates the conversion channel matrix using a lattice reduction algorithm(S11). The MIMO system detects a conversion Tx signal(s) through a sequential lattice search scheme using the Rx signal(y) and the conversion channel matrix(S12). The MIMO system judges whether the detected conversion Tx signal(s) is an ML detection value(S13). If so, the MIMO system calculates the ML detection value of the original Tx signal(x), based on the conversion Tx signal(s) and the conversion matrix(T)(S14).
