Method for producing free swimming Artemia nauplii and packaged cysts for use in that method

A method for producing free swimming Artemia nauplii starting from a quantity of Artemia cysts, including diapauzing cysts, by incubating the cysts in a hatching medium, in a density which comprises maximally about 5 g cyst dry matter per litre hatching medium. In order to break diapause in the diapauzing cysts to increase the hatching percentage an amount of hydrogen peroxide, selected within the range between 0.5 and 30 mg/l, is introduced in the hatching medium either by adding a hydrogen peroxide solution or a compound such as calcium or magnesium peroxide which produces hydrogen peroxide when being added to the hatching medium. An advantage of these solid hydrogen peroxide producing compounds is that they can be mixed with the cysts in the appropriate amount and added, together with the cysts, to the hatching medium.
