A METHOD FOR GENERATING A DATA STRUCTURE FOR A VOLUME RAY CASTING

A method for creating a data structure for volume ray casting is provided to remarkably shorten rendering time as compared with an existing method by dividing the ceiling and floor of each candidate cell into virtual sub-squares, calculating a scalar value and a gradient vector for each divided sub-square by using bilinear interpolation, and storing them in a data storage. A control part determines candidate cells(S10). The control part divides the ceiling and floor of each of the candidate cells into virtual sub-squares(S20). The control part calculates scalar values and gradient vectors for the divided sub-squares respectively using bilinear interpolation(S30). The control part stores the calculated scalar values and gradient vectors in a data storage(S40).
