Method and Apparatus for Permitting Loopback in Junction of Ethernet and SDH/SONET

PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for allowing loopback at a junction of Ethernet and SDH(Synchronous Digital Hierarchy)/SONET(Synchronous Optical Network) are provided to simply develop an NG-SDH/SONET equipment by removing a loopback problem arising when a shared virtual channel is used. CONSTITUTION: An NG-ADM(Add Drop Mux) extracts an Ethernet packet from channel data received through a line card(S700). The NG-ADM determines a destination address of the extracted Ethernet packet(S702). If the destination address of the Ethernet packet is directed to an Internet network(S704), the NG-ADM transmits the Ethernet packet through the Internet network(S706). If the destination address of the Ethernet packet is directed to internal network(S708), the NG-ADM transmits the Ethernet packet to a corresponding terminal through the line card(S710).
