Method and apparatus of color extraction for YUV data format

A method and an apparatus for extracting colors of a YUV image are provided to designate a correct color region with a simple circuit and small memory capacity and prevent a variation in a luminance component and image distortion. The positions of three vertexes composed of a U component corresponding to a difference between a luminance signal and a red component and a V component corresponding to a difference between the luminance signal and a blue component are designated to set a color region. U and V components are separated from inputted YUV data. It is determined whether the separated U and V components are included in the color region. When the separated U and V components are included in the color region, the U and V components are output. When the separated U and V components are not included in the color region, predetermined U and V components are output.
