A sulfonated poly(arylene ether) copolymer having a crosslinked structure at the end thereof is provided to improve cation conductivity, dimensional stability and quality as a polymer electrolyte membrane while maintaining thermal stability, mechanical stability, chemical stability and film forming capability. A sulfonated poly(arylene ether) copolymer having a crosslinked structure at the end thereof is represented by the following formula: CM-[(OSAr1-O)k-/-Ar-(O-Ar-O)s]n-CM. In the formula, SAr1 is a sulfonated aromatic; Ar is a non-sulfonated aromatic; CM represents a crosslinkable moiety; k ranges from 0.001 to 1.000; s is 1-k; and n represents the number of repeating units in the polymer, and is an integer of 10-500.
