Apparatus and method for robust speech recognition of speaker distance character

An apparatus and a method for recognizing voice are provided to improve short-distance voice recognition performance and long-distance voice recognition performance simultaneously. A distance-based voice record unit(100) receives and records voices inputted from a short-distance voice record part and a long-distance voice record part simultaneously. An external noise removal unit(200) receives the recorded voices outputted from the distance-based voice record unit, and then estimates and removes external noise from the recorded voices. An input voice selection unit(300) receives the record voices without the external noise, and then selects a voice type with an improved voice recognition performance among the inputted voices in which short-distance characteristics and long-distance characteristics property are reflected. A voice recognition unit(400) receives the selected voice to perform a voice recognition process on the selected voice.
