COMPOSITION COMPRISING THE EXTRACTS OF PUERARIAE RADIX AND THE DAIDZEIN ISOLATED FROM THERE AS AN ACTIVE INGRADIENT FOR PREVENTION OR TREATMENT OF ISCHEMIA

A composition comprising the extract of Puerariae Radix or daidzein isolated therefrom is provided to protect damage of nerve cells in CA1(Cornu Ammonis) region of the human hippocampus and inhibit harmful effects on human, so that the composition is useful to prevent or treat ischemic cerebral diseases caused by apoptosis of nerve cells. A composition for prevention or treatment of ischemic cerebral diseases except vascular dementia caused by apoptosis of nerve cells comprises the extract of Puerariae Radix which is prepared by extracting Puerariae Radix with water, C1-C3 lower alcohol or a mixture thereof, or 0.001 to 50 wt.% of daidzein isolated therefrom which is isolated from the ethylacetate fraction of the Puerariae Radix extract, wherein the ischemic cerebral diseases include thrombosis, em-bolism, transient ischemic attack, lacune, cerebral apoplexy, cerebral hemorrhage, cerebral infarction, head trauma or cerebral circulation metabolic disorder.
