AUTOMATIC CLEARANCE COMPENSATOR OF SUPPORT YORK FOR USE IN RACK AND PINION TYPE STEERING APPARATUS

An automatic clearance compensator for a support yoke used in a rack and pinion type steering apparatus is provided to compensate for clearance between a rack bar and a support yoke by installing a number of cams and a cam fixing member among a support yoke, a spring, and a yoke plug. An automatic clearance compensator for a support yoke(310) used in a rack and pinion type steering apparatus comprises a spring(320), a yoke plug(330), cams(340), and a cam fixing member(350). The support yoke supports a rack bar. Located on the opposite side of the rack bar, the spring pushes the support yoke toward the rack bar. The yoke plug supports the spring. The cam is disposed between the support yoke and the yoke plug, and sustains the support yoke and the spring. The cam fixing member is disposed between the support yoke and the yoke plug and has grooves for the cams. The cams are aligned radially around the centeral axis of the support yoke and the yoke plug. The grooves, which are radially formed on a front surface of the cam fixing member facing the support yoke and the spring, have the same curvature as rear surfaces of the cams.
