A method for determining the level of mRNA is the catalytic subunit of telomerase (hTERT) by hybridization in situ with a fluorescent probe, characterized in that the subsequent analysis of the test cells performed by flow cytometry, and mRNA hTERT levels in cells is defined as the average level of fluorescence after hybridization minus the autofluorescence of cells that have passed the same conditions in the absence of the probe; analogously to determine the level of hTERT mRNA in tumor cells lines and in relation to this indicator the indicator hTERT mRNA levels in the test cells determine the degree of telomerase enzyme activity in these cells.
