The internal combustion engine combustion process control method involves detecting the combustion pressure peaks in at least one combustion chamber of the internal combustion engine using a knock sensor while the engine is operating with controlled self ignition and optimizing the parameters that influence the combustion process depending on the signal from the knock sensor. AN Independent claim is also included for the following: (a) a device for controlling a combustion process in an internal combustion engine with controlled self-ignition.
