A method for registering intra - operatively recorded 2d - projection images of an object relative to a preoperatively recorded 3d - image data set of the same object, wherein by recording a relation between the coordinate system of the 3d - image data set and the coordinate system of the 2d - projection images is determined with the following steps:a) receiving at least two 2d - projection images of the object from different projection angles (34);b) three-dimensional reconstruction of a contained in the object, both in the 3d - image data set as well as in the 2d - projection images identifiable target structure (1) from the at least two 2d - projection images, with the use of a model function for the shape of the target structure, wherein a 3d - model of the target structure (36) is obtained; andc) 3d - 3d - registration of the 3d - model relative to the 3d - image data set (38), wherein the target structure in the 3d - image data set with the 3d - model is brought into agreement.
