The method involves detecting person approaching an underwater prohibited area (13), and tracing a way of the person to the prohibited area. An unmanned underwater craft (22) equipped with a defense unit is operated at an expectation area (58) upon detection the person entering into the prohibited area, where the traced person is expected to pass through the expectation area. The defense unit is used within the expectation area by the underwater craft to locate the traced person. The defense unit is adjusted to the potential, emanating from the traced person, to entering danger. An independent claim is also included for a device for protecting a person entering into an underwater prohibited area.
