The device has columnar fan unit (GE) that is arranged in exit orifice for producing air flow which is directed in flow main propagation direction. A columnar suction unit (AE) is positioned in preset spacing with respect to fan unit, and is provided with receiving opening along flow main propagation direction. The suction unit is provided to suck the air flow from fan unit through receiving opening. A half cylinder guides the air flowed into suction unit to semiconductor gas sensor used for detecting substance from person (P) who enters between fan unit and suction unit. An independent claim is included for method for detecting removable volatile substance from object or person.
