Use of metal chelate containing at least a perfluorinated alkyl-residue; at least a chelator-residue; and at least a metal ion equivalent to the atomic number 21-29, 31-33, 37-39, 42-44, 49 or 57-53, and its salt for the production of diagnostic agent for representation of amyloid-containing plaques. An independent claim is included for a method for in vitro detection of amyloid-plaques and/or in vitro diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease comprising incubating a metal complex with optionally pretreated and/or fixed brain tissue of patients; and detecting the amyloid-plaques, localizing and/or quantifying the amyloid-plaques with a suitable detection method, preferably magnetic resonance spectroscopy, magnetic resonance imaging or X-ray-based method.
