The device (1) has an exhaust gas inlet pipe (2) for conveying exhaust gas from a combustion chamber of an internal-combustion engine. Exhaust gas discharge is provided for transferring after-treatment exhaust gas. An adjusting unit (7) is adapted to adjust a flow direction of the exhaust gas through an exhaust gas after-treatment unit (3). The inlet pipe is connected with two connections (4, 5) of the after-treatment unit over the adjusting unit. The adjusting unit has an adjustable valve unit (8) for adjusting distribution of exhaust gas flow from the inlet pipe. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating an exhaust gas after-treatment device with an exhaust gas after-treatment unit and an adjusting unit.
