The electronic key (10) has a housing (12) with housing areas, where an electronic unit is arranged in an inner side of the housing. The housing areas are connected with each other and form an electronic unit-accommodation channel for the electronic unit. The housing has a housing recess for accommodating a locking unit (26). The electronic unit has an electronic unit recess for the accommodation of the locking unit. The housing recess and the electronic unit recess are arranged in the installed condition in an aligned manner and accommodate the locking unit.
