The device has a belt pulley (16) stored at a clamping shaft for engagement and retraction in a belt (12) of a belt drive. An operating unit with an eccentric section is supported on a positioning shaft and fixed parallel to the clamping shaft. A clamping ring is connected with the pulley and supported in a base plate to encompass the unit. The ring has a clamping section at its inner side, where the clamping and the eccentric section are engaged such that pulley is engaged to and detached from the belt in respective eccentric positions. The eccentric section is provided in a ring`s recess.
