The tool includes a resistance welding apparatus in which one electrode forms a plunger (6). The recess surrounds the opening (21) of the nut insert (33). A high pressure sealing component (14), is located in the fluid path between the opening and the region to be welded (28), during hole production. The seal is a ring seal between the end face of the insert (33) and the plunger. The recess is a bore (13) flush with the insert opening (21). The seal is formed by a sealing plunger (14) which moves in the bore relative to the plunger. The sealing plunger has a surrounding, outer conical profile (19). This seals against high pressure, in conjunction with an internal cone formed in the edge of the passage through the insert. The bore (13) is blind and the sealing plunger is supported by spring-loading against its base. The channel (26) in the sealing plunger, opens on one side at its rear (15) and on the other side, into the opening (21) of the insert.
