The method involves evaluating a first function (f1) based on a current vehicle speed (v) and a current level of sportiness (gsp) of a variable length distance (lvor). In a second step, a second function (f2) is evaluated. A third function (f3) is evaluated, which in relation to route data, vehicle speed and the degree of sportiness, calculates possible driving situations (sitcand). A fourth function (f4) is evaluated in relation to the possible driving situation and hazards in front of the vehicle so that electronic and or mechanical vehicle systems can be influenced.
