Procedure for direct, quantitative determination of glycolate and/or glyoxalate and their derivative comprises determining the concentration of the oxalate, in which the sample solution is treated with an oxidant, so that forms an monoperoxyoxalic acid as an intermediate; glycoxylating completely by a specific oxidation step with concentrated nitric acid in transformed oxalate; subsequently again determining the concentration of the oxalate obtained; and finally evaluating the glyoxylate content under consideration of the molecular weight before and after the oxidation step. Procedure for direct, quantitative determination of glycolate and/or glyoxalate and their derivative of formula (HOCH2-COOR and/or OCH-COOR), comprises determining the concentration of the oxalate, in which the sample solution is treated with an oxidant, so that forms an monoperoxyoxalic acid as an intermediate, which stimulates photochemically and their photon emission is recorded by chemiluminescence measurement in the presence of an activator; glycoxylating completely by a specific oxidation step with concentrated nitric acid in transformed oxalate; subsequently again determining the concentration of the oxalate obtained; and finally evaluating the glyoxylate content under consideration of the molecular weight before and after the oxidation step.
