The method involves providing an electromagnetic valve (18) for supplying fuel and combustion air and an ignition module (20) for ignition of mixture in a combustion chamber (5). An internal combustion engine i.e. two-stroke engine (1), is controlled in an operating condition such that number of burns is less than number of engine cycles. The operating state is a high rotational speed range, in which rotational speed of the engine lies above nominal rotation speed and below a number of revolutions in a regulation range.
