The boiler has a combustion chamber (3) with a burner connected to a fixed blower burner (4), and a flame (6) provided in the combustion chamber. Water circulates between a water intake (9) and a water outlet (10). In the combustion chamber (3) a subsequent hot gas system is provided having an exhaust system (12) for combustion gases which warm the running water. The boilers (1) of the combustion chamber (3) have an enhancing heat storage facility (18) made from flame resistant material such as ceramic with an outlet (20) provided for the outgoing combustion gases of the combustion chamber. An independent claim is included for a method for retrofitting a boiler with a combustion chamber.
