The valve (1) has a support body (3) and a continuous borehole (5) with a connection to a supply opening (7) for supplying a material to be portioned e.g. glue. A metering piston (8) is movable between an operating position and an idle position and is axial displaceably supported in the borehole. A nozzle (11) including a nozzle area (12) and an outlet opening (13) is mounted in the support body. The nozzle area is supplied with cleaning fluid (15) for cleaning the material after movement of the piston into the idle position. An independent claim is also included for a method for cleaning a metering valve.
