The method involves controlling a linear drive (2) by an electronic control (S), where the linear drive operates a valve over a driving axis. The valve closes/opens a valve outlet (12). The valve and the linear drive are designed and arranged in such a manner that the electronic control detects opening/closing of the valve by current/voltage measurements. A valve inlet (11) and the valve outlet are provided for gas supply of main flame. An independent claim is also included for a gas valve with a valve inlet.
