In a process to control the operation of a hydraulic automotive brake system (13), the system is held at a readiness pressure (Ppre) that reduces air compression slack. The buildup of readiness pressure is initiated when a trigger condition (AKRIT) is reached following detection of a given transverse dynamic vehicle motion. The trigger condition is a measured transverse acceleration value that exceeds a pre-determined threshold yaw value. Initiation of the change in readiness pressure is suspended if the system detects that the driver has already taken corrective action, e.g. a lane change or avoidance action. Also claimed is a commensurate hydraulic brake control assembly.
