The vehicle has a component (12) e.g. electronic engine controller and electronic tachometer, comprising electronic control unit (14) with a programmable memory (16), where a checkable signature is stored in the memory and the signature is formed by an identification code. An identification device (20) e.g. radio frequency identification transponder, is provided for storing the code, and a programming device (30) for programming the code is arranged in a receiving area of the identification device, where the code is read contactlessly from the identification device and assigned to the vehicle. An independent claim is also included for a method for identification and/or protecting components in a device.
