The vehicle has a rear seat with a backrest (1) forward folded for extension of a luggage space adjacent to the rear seat after releasing a locking device (19). A drive chain is offset for operating the locking device by a drive device (7). A control unit controls releasing of the locking device, such that releasing of the locking device is effected before introduction of folding movement of the backrest. The drive chain is provided with shafts (15, 15'), spur gears (17, 17') and worm gears (11, 11'). The locking device has a connecting unit operating between the backrest and a body part.
