The method involves switching a set of controllers (18.1, 18.2) between the full engine operation and the half engine operation, where the controllers exchange data by a data connection (19). A determination is made whether a switching of operating mode take places and a test of the data connection between the controllers and/or a comparison of the operating condition of the controllers take place when switching the operating mode. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a device i.e. controller, for switching operating mode of an internal-combustion engine (2) a computer program with program code for performing a method for switching an operating mode of the internal-combustion engine.
