The invention relates to a method for hydrothermal gasification of biomass in supercritical water, wherein the biomass and as a reaction product is diluted product gases as well as process effluent, the inorganic salts and organic residues, are produced.The inventive process makes it possible to use process effluent for the dilution of the biomass, in that preferably a major part of the process effluents, from which previously a predominant part of the inorganic salts has been separated, is returned, and with this part of the biomass is diluted.This reduces the risk of interruptions to the considerably due to the salts.
