A fold-up type water plane (100) has a trunk (105) and a framework (117) with a expandable folding diaphragm (110). The diaphragm forms part of a lower fuselage area (107) which comes in contact with the water surface as the plane lands. The diaphragm includes an outer layer (111) and an inner layer (112) defining a bag (113) with a lockable bag opening. The bag is structured to permit insertion or withdrawal of the trunk reinforcement via the bag opening.
