The device has print wheels (1) arranged in distance of characters independent of each other and rotatable on a common shaft (6) such that each print wheel has a form of a circular segment, on whose outer circumference the types (2) are formed. Each print wheel is provided with drives (7, 8, 9, 10) for turning the print wheel over an angle corresponding to the circular segment. The drive has an engine, in particular an electric motor, arranged and set to each other in a plane perpendicular to an axis of the shaft and/or in an axial direction of the shaft.
