The method involves charging an inductor (6) of a path sensor (7) with an operating voltage (Uo) up to a preset current value, and discharging the inductor up to another preset current value. The path sensor is loaded and unloaded by a measuring resistor (3), where measured times of loading and unloading of the sensor between the preset current values are measured and evaluated. Inductance of the inductor is determined by using sum of measured times of loading and unloading of the inductor at same or different resistance values of the resistor. An independent claim is also included for a circuit for the evaluation of an inductive path sensor.
