Optical transmission line's polarization mode dispersion determining method, involves determining polarization mode dispersion of transmission line from preset representations of partial signals to orthogonal polarized signal portions
The method involves dividing two signal portions (S1a, S1b) with predetermined orthogonal polarizations into two optical signals. The run time difference is determined between the optical signals. Polarization mode dispersion of an optical transmission line is determined from the predetermined representations of the partial signals to orthogonal polarized signal portions, where the predetermined representations of the partial signals on orthogonal signal portions differ from each other. An independent claim is also included for an arrangement for determining the polarization mode dispersion of an optical transmission line.
