The system has a motor-generator arrangement comprising a diesel motor (1.1) and a generator (1.2). An autonomous exhaust gas turbine (2) is coupled with the arrangement so that the turbine and motor commonly operate the generator. The turbine and the motor are coupled by a gear mechanism. The turbine is coupled with a hydraulic pump (3.1) for conveying hydraulic fluid to a hydraulic motor (3.2) that is connected with the arrangement. A turbo drive is arranged between the turbine and the pump. The flow rate of the pump and/or the measure of hydraulic fluid in the hydraulic motor is variable.
