The method involves activating a monitoring unit during stopping of a work machine and comparing stroke height and slope angle of the monitoring unit with a threshold value assigned to a parking position of a load shank (3). A signal generator is activated by the monitoring unit and a warning signal is emitted by the activated signal generator during exceeding gradient threshold value and stroke height threshold value. An independent claim is also included for a work machine e.g. industrial truck.
