The method involves operating an internal-combustion engine of a bivalently operatable motor vehicle for production of drive moment in two different operating modes by lighting with different fuels. The cryogenic stored fuel e.g. hydrogen, of a fuel storage is supplied for production of the drive moment in one of the modes. The fuel amount of the fuel storage is monitored, and an automatic change-over to the other operating mode takes place when fuel amount falls below a pre-determined minimum amount. The engine is supplied with the fuel from another fuel storage in the latter operating mode. An independent claim is also included for a motor vehicle with an internal-combustion engine for production of a drive moment, comprising a controller.
