A light-emitting device (LED) with an anode, a cathode and an emitter layer between them containing metal complex(es) (optionally in combination with a matrix), in which the emitter layer is at least partly deuterated. An independent claim is included for a method for improving the efficiency (photoluminescence quantum yield) of an LED as above by reducing non-radiative deactivation processes in the emitting state of the emitter.
