The device (1) has a sensor (18) determining a chemical and/or physical process parameter and/or an actuator (19) controlling the parameter. A device electronics (2) partially and/or occasionally signals and communicates operating conditions and measuring- or controlling conditions of the device over a two-wire line (3). A potential-free switching output (4) is provided as a switching unit (5) for signaling of the operating conditions and/or measuring- or controlling conditions, where the switching unit is designed as bistable relay (10) and a photo-MOS-relay.
