The method involves preparing a front catalyst (FK) by bringing a reducing agent quantity into the catalyst. The oxygen uptake of the catalyst is determined and compared with a pre-determined threshold value and if the determined oxygen uptake is smaller than pre-determined threshold value, the reducing agent is added with increased quantity. An independent claim is also included for a controller for testing the functionality of catalyst.
