The system has a measuring device (4) for measuring an amount of fuel above a filling level (N1) and below another filling level (N2) lying under the filling level (N1). A processor unit (8) computes an existing amount of fuel in a fuel tank (1) for filling conditions between the filling levels. An indicator (11) is provided for indicating the amount of fuel. The processor unit determines a difference between the computed fuel amount and a measured amount of fuel after falling below the filling level (N2).
